As Kerala prepares for the vital Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of its voter list this week, election authorities are introducing a fun and creative ‘Reels Challenge’ to spark public interest and boost awareness about this crucial process.
This exciting ‘SIR Reels Challenge’ will run from November 4th to December 4th, perfectly coinciding with the official house-to-house enumeration period. Kerala’s Chief Electoral Officer, Rathan U. Kelkar, has invited citizens to produce ‘innovative and engaging’ short videos, or ‘reels’, highlighting the importance of the SIR.
Participants have the chance to win attractive cash prizes for the most outstanding entries. To be considered, these creative reels must be uploaded to social media and tag the official pages of the Kerala CEO’s office, as detailed in their public announcement.
Election officials acknowledge that revising voter lists can often seem like a dull, bureaucratic task. The ‘Reels Challenge’ aims to transform this perception, making the process more dynamic and appealing to the general public, particularly younger voters.
The comprehensive, month-long house-to-house enumeration for the SIR is slated to begin on November 4th across Kerala. Every voter registered as of October 27, 2025, will receive an SIR enumeration form. Following this, the draft rolls will be published on December 9th, kicking off a verification period. The updated, final voter rolls are expected to be released on February 7th.
However, the SIR initiative hasn’t been without controversy. Most major political parties, with the exception of the BJP, have voiced their opposition, particularly regarding its timing so close to the upcoming local body elections. In response, the State Cabinet has scheduled an urgent all-party meeting for 4 p.m. on November 5th to address these concerns.
