In a fiery address from Hyderabad, K.T. Rama Rao, the dynamic working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS), launched a scathing attack on the current Congress government this Sunday. He alleged that the Hyderabad Disaster Management and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) was unfairly targeting the city’s less privileged residents in its ongoing demolition drives, while conveniently overlooking properties owned by influential figures, including members of the Congress party itself.
To underscore his point, Mr. Rao inaugurated a powerful photo exhibition at the BRS party headquarters. Titled “HYDRAA Atrocities: Justice for the Rich, Injustice for the Poor,” the exhibition aimed to visually depict the severe impact of these demolitions on ordinary citizens.
During a comprehensive presentation, Mr. Rao specifically accused the Congress government, led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, of carrying out these demolitions without adhering to proper legal procedures, such as issuing mandatory notices. He contrasted this with the alleged protection offered to significant assets belonging to wealthy individuals and prominent builders.
He vehemently questioned the selective enforcement by HYDRAA officials, asking, “A bulldozer reached a poor man’s house within a week of construction, but the government has not touched the big farmhouses of the rich. Why are the same rules not applied to big builders and Congress leaders?” This rhetorical question highlighted his core accusation of double standards.
Mr. Rao recounted distressing incidents from areas like Chandrayangutta and Kondapur, where homes were reportedly demolished without warning. He highlighted the devastating human cost, mentioning families, including women and children, left homeless. He shared a particularly poignant example: “A pregnant woman was pushed aside, and a three-year-old child went hungry after their home was demolished.”
The BRS leader also recalled Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka’s previous statements, noting that while Mr. Vikramarka had named several prominent builders during an earlier presentation regarding illegal constructions, no action had seemingly been taken against them.
Offering solace and a glimmer of hope, the BRS MLA assured the affected victims of his party’s unwavering support. “Many people have become victims of HYDRAA and Musi,” he stated, vowing, “We will bring you justice once the KCR government returns to power.” He further criticized the current administration, claiming they haven’t launched a single new development project in the past two years.
