The Kerala government has stepped in to support the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) by sanctioning an additional ₹74.34 crore specifically for pension payments. This latest allocation brings the total financial assistance provided to the struggling transport utility this year (2025) to a substantial ₹933.34 crore, as announced by Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal.
The comprehensive support package for 2025 includes ₹350 crore designated as special assistance, alongside the ₹583.44 crore allocated for vital pension disbursements. This year’s support is particularly noteworthy as the 2025-26 Kerala Budget had already set aside ₹900 crore for KSRTC.
Highlighting the long-term commitment, Minister Balagopal revealed that over the past nine years, the State government has provided an impressive total financial assistance of ₹12,906 crore to KSRTC. This substantial sum comprises ₹5,002 crore disbursed during the tenure of the previous Left Democratic Front (LDF) government and a significant ₹7,904 crore extended during the current government’s term. This ongoing support underscores the government’s dedication to ensuring the stability and operational continuity of the state’s public transport system, especially in meeting its pension obligations.
