A devastating road accident in Jaipur, Rajasthan, has claimed the lives of 13 people. The tragedy unfolded when a speeding truck, reportedly driven by a severely intoxicated individual, careened through the Harmada area, colliding with multiple vehicles and tragically striking pedestrians and bikers. Eyewitnesses described a scene of utter chaos and terror as the truck, originating from the Loha Mandi direction, showed no signs of slowing down, leaving a trail of destruction.
The sheer force of the collision was so immense that several vehicles were completely obliterated. First responders and locals immediately rushed to the scene to rescue survivors trapped within the wreckage. The aftermath saw bodies scattered across the road, mangled vehicles strewn along the highway, and motorcycles crushed beneath the truck’s wheels.
Authorities confirmed that three individuals remain in critical condition and have been transferred to the SMS Hospital Trauma Centre for advanced care. According to Jaipur District Collector Jitendra Soni, the dumper was traveling at high speed on Road No. 14, heading towards the Loha Mandi petrol pump, when it began its devastating path.
One survivor, Surinder, who was in a car that was crushed, recounted the harrowing experience, stating that the truck driver appeared completely out of control and under the influence of alcohol. ‘The truck was coming from the Loha Mandi side. The truck was at full speed, the driver was completely drunk, and trampled everyone in its path. My car was parked and I was inside the car,’ he said.
The incident has sparked renewed concerns about road safety and reckless driving in Rajasthan, especially as it occurred just hours after another fatal accident in Phalodi. The truck driver has been taken into custody by the police, and an investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, along with his deputies and former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, expressed their deep sorrow over the loss of life. The state’s BJP President, Madan Rathore, also voiced his grief, urging drivers to exercise extreme caution and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent such tragedies.
