A deeply distressing incident has unfolded in Kidangoor, Kottayam, where a 74-year-old man is alleged to have tragically ended the life of his 70-year-old bedridden wife before attempting suicide himself. The victim has been identified as Remani, a resident of Manthadi, Kidangoor.
Authorities have since apprehended her husband, Soman E.R., in connection with this grave event.
According to police reports, the couple shared their home with their two sons. Investigators believe Soman allegedly murdered his wife in their bedroom on Friday night. The police indicated that he was reportedly overwhelmed by the immense challenges and emotional strain of caring for her. Following the alleged murder, he reportedly attacked his younger son, though his elder son bravely intervened to stop him.
Subsequently, Soman retreated to another room where he made an attempt to take his own life by hanging. Fortunately, his sons were able to rescue him. Neighbors, alerted by the unfolding tragedy, promptly contacted the police, who swiftly arrived at the scene and took Soman into custody. Remani’s body has since been transferred to a hospital for inquest procedures and will be released to her family after the post-mortem examination.
