A somber cloud hangs over Chittur, Kerala, following the tragic discovery of 14-year-old twin brothers, Raman and Laxman, who were found deceased in a local temple pond. The boys, sons of Kashi Viswanathan, residents near Chittur Kavu, had been reported missing since Saturday evening. Authorities believe they tragically drowned.
Students in the ninth standard at Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Chittur, Raman and Laxman were last seen around 7 p.m. on Saturday. A widespread search was initiated by concerned local residents throughout Saturday night, but unfortunately, their whereabouts remained unknown.
The first grim discovery was made on Sunday morning when Laxman’s body was found in the Lankeswaram Siva Temple pond. This prompted a more intensive search of the area, which tragically led to the recovery of Raman’s body shortly thereafter.
Investigators surmise that the brothers may have entered the pond after visiting the temple for prayers around 6 p.m. on Saturday. Their electric scooter was found abandoned near the pond on Sunday morning, adding to the mystery surrounding their disappearance.
Police suspect that the boys, who reportedly did not possess swimming skills, might have ventured into the pond with the intention of fishing. Following post-mortem examinations at the Government District Hospital, the bodies were respectfully released to their grieving family on Sunday afternoon.
