Harmanpreet Kaur’s Inspiring Words: ‘There Will Be Champions’ During India’s Historic World Cup Celebration

Harmanpreet Kaur’s team made history by winning India’s first-ever ICC Women’s World Cup title, defeating South Africa by a decisive 52 runs. The captain’s heartfelt declaration, combined with standout performances from players like Shafali Verma and Deepti Sharma, fueled this monumental victory.

The night was a whirlwind of emotion, pride, and celebration for Indian cricket as Harmanpreet Kaur’s squad proudly lifted the ICC Women’s World Cup trophy at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. After securing their 52-run victory against South Africa, Harmanpreet turned to the cameras, beaming with joy, and pointed to the giant screen that read “ICC Women’s World Cup India 2025.” With a confident smile, she declared, “…champion likhke aayega” (champions will be written here).

The overjoyed skipper was captured dancing her way to the podium before triumphantly hoisting the trophy high. This celebration marked the culmination of years of dedicated pursuit, as India’s women cricketers finally achieved a dream that many generations before them had narrowly missed. Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, a pivotal figure throughout the tournament, joined in, proudly posing with the glittering trophy, savoring the long-awaited prize.

Earlier in the evening, Harmanpreet received the World Cup trophy from ICC chairman Jay Shah. Their brief yet emotional interaction became one of the final’s most defining moments: as she moved to accept the trophy, Harmanpreet instinctively began to bow in respect, a gesture gently acknowledged and stopped by a nod.

On the field, India’s triumph was a collective masterpiece of exceptional cricket. Shafali Verma’s impressive 87 runs and Deepti Sharma’s brilliant all-round performance—contributing 55 runs and an outstanding five-wicket haul—propelled the team to a formidable total of 298/7. Despite South Africa’s captain Laura Wolvaardt’s resilient 101, India’s bowlers maintained unwavering control, ultimately securing the nation’s maiden women’s world title.
