India’s decisive 52-run victory over South Africa in the final at DY Patil Stadium brought an end to a long-standing quest for an ICC title, finally overcoming the disappointments of 2005 and 2017. The images released by the ICC on Monday, showcasing the skipper holding the trophy against the backdrop of the iconic monument, instantly transported fans back to Dhoni’s legendary pose in 2011.
Deepti Sharma was a pivotal force behind India’s successful World Cup campaign, delivering an exceptional all-round performance that earned her the Player of the Tournament award. The talented off-spinning all-rounder dazzled with five wickets for 39 runs and a crucial 58 runs in the final match. She concluded the tournament with an impressive tally of 22 wickets and 215 runs.
“I am feeling truly wonderful,” Deepti shared, “Ever since we played the first game of the World Cup, I’ve performed exactly as I aspired to as a senior player. There’s nothing better than delivering such a strong performance in the final and lifting the trophy.”
Reflecting on their journey, Deepti expressed a sense of destiny. “It took us a really long time to win the World Cup, but what is meant to be, happens at its destined time, and I believe it was meant to happen in India,” she added.

Harmanpreet echoed these sentiments, viewing the victory as merely the beginning for the team. “This is just the start. This isn’t the end; it’s just the beginning.”
The skipper also extended her appreciation to her teammates and the support staff, acknowledging their indispensable contributions to the victory. “I must give immense credit to the team; this achievement wouldn’t have been possible without every single one of them,” she said.
Team India is currently in Mumbai and is scheduled for a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Wednesday, November 5.
