Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Krishna extended heartfelt congratulations to DSP Deepti Sharma, an acclaimed all-rounder for India, following her exemplary and historic contribution to the nation’s triumph in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025.
Deepti Sharma, who serves the Uttar Pradesh Police as a Deputy Superintendent under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s ‘Kushal Khiladi Yojana’ (Skilled Athlete Scheme), was instrumental in securing India’s 52-run victory over South Africa in the final held at Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium.
The official DGP Uttar Pradesh social media account proudly shared a message, proclaiming her as ‘Uttar Pradesh Police’s Pride on the Global Stage!’ The post highlighted her outstanding tournament performance, where she amassed 215 runs and took an impressive 22 wickets, earning her the coveted Player of the Tournament award. This remarkable achievement, the message conveyed, brings immense pride to the entire country, the state, and the Uttar Pradesh Police force.
Sharma’s appointment as DSP occurred in January 2025, facilitated by the sports quota under the Chief Minister’s initiative.
In the thrilling World Cup final, the 28-year-old Agra native delivered a record-setting performance. She became the first player, male or female, to both score a fifty and take a five-wicket haul in a World Cup knockout match. Her decisive contribution included figures of 5 for 39 with the ball and a crucial 54 runs with the bat, underpinning India’s total of 298/7 and leading them to their inaugural Women’s World Cup title.
Throughout the tournament, her stellar all-round display, accumulating 22 wickets and 215 runs, rightly earned her the Player of the Series award.
Post-victory, Sharma expressed her joy to a news agency, stating, ‘I am feeling truly wonderful. From the very first game of the World Cup, I aimed to perform as a senior player, and I’m incredibly proud to have delivered such a strong performance in the final and helped lift the trophy.’
Reflecting on the long journey to this global success, she added, ‘It took us a considerable time to win the World Cup, but I believe that what is destined for you will happen at the right moment, and it felt like this victory was meant to take place in India.’
