Duke of Tuscany Stuns Rivals with Record-Breaking Victory at Pune Monsoon Races, Securing Championship for Trainer Pesi Shroff

The concluding day of the Pune Monsoon Season 2025 delivered an exhilarating climax on Sunday, November 2, as the 12-to-1 longshot, Duke Of Tuscany, defied expectations to snatch victory in the highly anticipated R.W.I.T.C. Ltd. Trophy. Ridden by the skilled P. Trevor, the horse not only claimed the feature event but did so in a breathtaking record time of 2 minutes and 2.24 seconds.

This triumph carried immense weight beyond the trophy itself, as it was the decisive race for the Trainers’ Championship. Trainer Pesi Shroff, whose Duke Of Tuscany emerged victorious, was locked in a tight contest with Imtiaz Sait, both tied at 13 points before this race. Duke Of Tuscany’s stunning performance, outpacing Sait’s Regina Memorabilis, ultimately sealed the championship for Shroff, crowning a remarkable season.

The winning horse is proudly owned by Mr. K. N. Dhunjibhoy, Mr. Z. K. Dhunjibhoy, Ms. Anosha Meyers (representing Five Stars Shipping Co. Pvt. Ltd.), Mr. Rama Seshu Eyunni, and Ms. Anita J. Captain.

  • Leading Owner: Mr. Vijay B. Shirke & Family, with an impressive stakes money total of ₹50,66,552.
  • Leading Trainer: P. Shroff, who concluded the season with 14 winners.

  • Leading Apprentice Jockey: Aditya Waydande, with 13 winners.
  • Leading Stud Farm: Equus, accumulating 37 points.

1. Pune Cantonment Board Trophy (Div. II) (1,200m): The first division of the Pune Cantonment Board Trophy saw an exciting finish.

DANCING CLOUD (K. Nazil) galloped to victory, followed by Mila (T.S. Jodha) in second, Spotlight (K. Pranil) in third, and Red Mist (Mukesh K) taking fourth. The race finished with margins of a Head, Neck, and 1 length, in a time of 1 minute, 10.56 seconds. The winner paid ₹139, with place bets at ₹37, ₹14, and ₹29. The SHP was ₹28, FP was ₹888, Q was ₹341, and Tanala paid ₹8,265 and ₹7,084. Mila was the favorite but couldn’t quite catch the winner. Owners: Mr. & Mrs. Mohan Thakur. Trainer: Hosidar Daji.

Note: In this race, Sky Full Of Stars (A. Gaikwad up) jumped out with her rider left standing in the stalls.

2. Delhi Race Club Trophy (1,200m): The Delhi Race Club Trophy presented another thrilling contest.

ATAASH (A. Omkar) secured first place, with Credence (Ramswarup) in second, Irish Gold (Sandesh) in third, and Turn And Burn (Parmar) finishing fourth. The race concluded with margins of 1/2, 3-3/4, and a Long Neck, in a time of 1 minute, 08.00 seconds. The winner paid ₹53, with place bets at ₹30 and ₹14. The SHP was ₹48, FP was ₹173, Q was ₹83, and Tanala paid ₹716 and ₹706. Credence entered as the favorite. Owners: Mrs. Bakhtawar B. Chenoy, Miss. Nazzak B. ENCINO (P. Trevor) romped home to victory, followed by Treat (A. Prakash) in second, Amazing Ruler (Merchant) in third, and Wind Dancer (Sandesh) in fourth. The race saw significant margins of 5-3/4, 1/2, and 1/2 lengths, with a time of 1 minute, 24.30 seconds. The winner paid ₹17, with place bets at ₹13, ₹21, and ₹24. The SHP was ₹66, FP was ₹122, Q was ₹111, and Tanala paid ₹1,419 and ₹1,014. Encino was the clear favorite. Owners: Mr. Gautam Lala representing Gainsville Stud & Agl. Farm Pvt. Ltd., Mr. Kishore P. BELIEVE (K. Pranil) claimed first place, ahead of Majestic Warrior (Avinash) in second, Flashman (Omkar) in third, and Red Dust (Merchant) in fourth. The race was decided by 2-1/2, 1, and 2-3/4 lengths, clocking 1 minute, 09.23 seconds. The winner paid ₹41, with place bets at ₹19, ₹11, and ₹17. The SHP was ₹52, FP was ₹227, Q was ₹83, and Tanala paid ₹589 and ₹344. Crimson Pirate was the favorite in this division. Owner: Mr. Ketan S. Wakkar. Trainer: S. Waheed.

5. General Rajendrasinhji Million (1,600m): The General Rajendrasinhji Million offered a compelling middle-distance race.

GIACOMO (A. Sandesh) crossed the finish line first, with Tyrannus (Suraj Narredu) a close second, Rosario (Vivek G) in third, and Miracle Of Hanukah (Yash Narredu) in fourth. The margins were 2-1/4 lengths, a Head, and a Long Neck, in a time of 1 minute, 37.94 seconds. The winner paid ₹18, with place bets at ₹10, ₹12, and ₹13. STARLIGHT SERENADE (Vivek G) flew to victory, followed by Bravion (Parmar) in second, Nebula (T.S. Jodha) in third, and Menorca (Sandesh) in fourth. The race saw margins of 2-1/4 lengths, a Nose, and 6 lengths, finishing in a brisk 58.20 seconds. The winner paid ₹18, with place bets at ₹13 and ₹43. The SHP was ₹67, FP was ₹93, Q was ₹112, and Tanala paid ₹1,310 and ₹1,216. Starlight Serenade was the favorite. Note: In this race, Black Magician (Trevor astride) stopped galloping near the 150-meter mark and did not complete the race.

7. R.W.I.T.C. Ltd Trophy (2,000m): This was the feature event, the R.W.I.T.C. Ltd Trophy, delivering the day’s biggest surprise.

DUKE OF TUSCANY (P. Trevor) seized the win, followed by Regina Memorabilis (Suraj Narredu) in second, Odysseus (Ajinkya) in third, and Dream Alliance (C.S. Jodha) in fourth. The race was decided by 1, 1, and 1-1/2 lengths, with Duke Of Tuscany setting a new record time of 2 minutes, 02.24 seconds. The winner paid ₹118, with place bets at ₹20, ₹14, and ₹28. The SHP was ₹57, FP was ₹521, Q was ₹293, and Tanala paid ₹5,177 and ₹2,219. Redefined was the pre-race favorite. Owners: Mr. K.N. Dhunjibhoy, Mr. Z.K. EXOTIC STAR (K. Pranil) triumphed, with Yuletide (Avinash) in second, Daianne (Bharat) in third, and Silver Braid (A. Prakash) in fourth. The margins were 1, 1-1/2, and 2-1/4 lengths, in a time of 1 minute, 54.43 seconds. The winner paid ₹35, with place bets at ₹37 and ₹43. The SHP was ₹53, FP was ₹783, Q was ₹232, and Tanala paid ₹1,739 and ₹426. Alexandria was the favorite for this event. Owners: Mr. Ketan S. STAR IMPACT (Mukesh Kumar) emerged victorious, with Storm Cloud (Avinash) taking second, Eastern Monarch (Sandesh) in third, and Chelsea (Ramswarup) in fourth. The race saw margins of 2, a Long Neck, and 3-1/4 lengths, with a time of 1 minute, 9.14 seconds. The winner paid ₹206, with place bets at ₹32, ₹85, and ₹15. The SHP was ₹733, while the FP, Q, and Tanala pools were carried forward due to no correct combinations. Foujita was the race favorite. Owners: Mrs. Ayesha A. The race featured margins of a Long Neck, 1-1/4, and 1/2 lengths, in a time of 1 minute, 5.70 seconds. The winner paid ₹102, with place bets at ₹50, ₹21, and ₹36. The SHP was ₹71, FP was ₹989, Q was ₹533, and Tanala paid ₹17,224. Anaira was the favorite. Owner & Trainer: Mr. Faisal A. Abbas.
