Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta officially declared Monday, October 27, a government holiday in observance of Chhath Puja. This decision aligns with the third and most revered day of the festival, a time when devotees gather along riverbanks and ponds to offer heartfelt prayers to the setting sun.

This holiday acknowledges the profound cultural and spiritual significance of Chhath Puja, a festival deeply rooted in faith, devotion, and a harmonious connection with nature. Its rituals emphasize purity, gratitude, and environmental consciousness, making it a prominent event in Delhi’s annual calendar.

Extensive Preparations Across Delhi’s Ghats

The Delhi government has mobilized comprehensive preparations for more than 1,300 Chhath ghats throughout the city. A special focus is on upgrading seventeen model ghats along the Yamuna river, equipping them with essential amenities such as tents, adequate lighting, clean toilets, drinking water, and enhanced security measures. These efforts aim to provide devotees with a comfortable and safe environment to perform their sacred rituals.

Chief Minister Inspects Pochanpur Ghat

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta personally oversaw the decoration and maintenance activities at Pochanpur Chhath Ghat in Dwarka Sector 23B. Accompanied by MLA Sandeep Sahrawat and members of the Chhath Puja Committee, her inspection highlighted the collaborative spirit between citizens and the government, ensuring the festival truly embodies cultural unity across the city.

Yamuna Cleaning and Environmental Commitment

For the past eight months, the government has actively pursued Yamuna river cleaning initiatives, which are now showing significant improvements in water quality. This ongoing effort involves coordinated work with neighboring states like Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, demonstrating the city administration’s commitment to blending environmental responsibility with its festival preparations.

New Ghats and Development Initiatives

Earlier on Friday, the Chief Minister inaugurated a newly constructed Chhath ghat and launched additional development projects totaling ₹30 crore in Laxmi Nagar. These initiatives also serve to acknowledge the invaluable contributions of the Purvanchal community to Delhi’s social and economic prosperity.

Delhi Poised for a Grand Chhath Celebration

With a declared government holiday and significantly improved facilities across the capital, Delhi is ready to host a magnificent Chhath celebration. This year’s festivities promise a beautiful fusion of deep devotion, meticulous civic planning, and a renewed commitment to environmental awareness.
