Star pacer Kyle Jamieson, who has battled injuries, and experienced spinner Ish Sodhi are back in the New Zealand T20 International squad for the series against West Indies. The action kicks off in Auckland on Wednesday, November 4, 2025.
Exciting all-rounder Nathan Smith, yet to make his T20I debut, has earned a spot in the 14-man roster. Smith previously featured for New Zealand in other formats against Sri Lanka last season and will be hoping to make his mark in the shortest format.
This marks a significant return for Jamieson, who was sidelined during the recent ODI series against England. Sodhi, meanwhile, rejoins the T20I setup for this five-match series after his appearance against Australia back in October.
With the T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka just around the corner, this series holds immense importance. Coach Rob Walter will be closely observing performances as he prepares to announce his preliminary squad early next year.
Veteran fast bowler Matt Henry will be absent from the T20I series against the West Indies. He is currently recovering from a calf muscle sprain, which forced him to miss the last two ODIs against England. The decision was made to ensure his full fitness for the subsequent three-match ODI series and the Test matches that will follow.
Former skipper and prolific batter Kane Williamson was not considered for selection, having announced his retirement from T20 International cricket earlier on the same day.
Commenting on the selections, Coach Walter stated, “Kyle has resumed bowling this week and is progressing well for this series.” He also praised the new inclusion, adding, “Nathan has shown great promise in his Test and ODI appearances, and we have full confidence in him to perform if given an opportunity in the T20 format.” Regarding Sodhi, Walter highlighted, “Ish is our most experienced T20I player, and his skills, energy, and invaluable experience are always a fantastic addition to the team.”
