Andhra Pradesh’s Agriculture Director, Manazir Jeelani Samoon, has announced that the comprehensive assessment of crop damage caused by Cyclone Montha is now nearing completion. In a recent press release, he confirmed that a remarkable 90% of the preliminary estimation, covering a vast 1,24,416 hectares, has already been finalized.
With the enumeration phase almost wrapped up, the focus is now shifting to social audits, which are set to commence shortly across 19 affected districts. Cyclone Montha particularly impacted regions like Konaseema, Kakinada, Krishna, and both East and West Godavari districts, where the damage was most severe.
Director Samoon has issued clear directives to all district agriculture officers. They are tasked with immediately initiating social audits following the enumeration, ensuring that all farmer grievances are addressed promptly, transparently, and with full accountability, strictly adhering to established guidelines. The final, approved lists will then be released with the consent of the grama sabhas (village assemblies).
Furthermore, he stressed the importance of ensuring that every farmer affected by crop damage is accurately included in the enumeration lists. He also mandated immediate re-verification of these lists by senior officials through a thorough ‘super-checking’ process once the social audits are complete, reinforcing the commitment to fairness and accuracy.
