The majestic St. George’s Cathedral, a cornerstone of Chennai’s architectural and spiritual landscape for over two centuries, has recently undergone a stunning transformation. Following extensive renovations and aesthetic enhancements, the historic cathedral on Cathedral Road was reverently rededicated on Saturday.
This remarkable restoration project commenced in January of this year and was successfully completed last month, meticulously overseen by a dedicated team from IIT-Madras. The rededication ceremony was a significant event, graced by prominent figures including Reuben Mark, the Moderator of the Church of South India (CSI), the Right Reverend Paul Francis Ravichandran, Bishop of CSI in Madras, and the Church’s Presbyter, Reverend Ruben Jayakumar.
The occasion also featured a heartfelt worship service, marking a new chapter for the venerable edifice. Originally constructed in 1815, with its first dedication held in 1816, St. George’s Cathedral now stands revitalized, ready to inspire future generations with its renewed beauty and historical grandeur.
